THE RUNNING MAN
The Running Man, directed by Edgar Wright, is a remake of the 1987 science fiction action film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
I had the pleasure of working with Oscar Wright on an animated sequence from the film that explains THE RULES OF THE RUN to the audience and contestants. The sequence follows a runner across a series of landscapes as he evades hunters, posts daily videos and fights to survive for 30 days.
The scrolling isometric animation takes inspiration from 1980s arcade games, combining traditional hand-drawn animation by Oscar with 2D and 3D animation.

In addition to the animated sequence above, we also created supporting graphics and artwork for screens and devices featured throughout the film. These included mobile phones, booths, facial recognition software, a 3D printer interface, video editing software, body cameras and television screens.
We also provided art direction, concept artwork and hand-drawn typography for sequences created by The Apostle.
